Meet Your Local Headache: The Organic Headache

There are over 150 diagnostic categories for headaches, but most people don’t know one from the next. Like any medical problem, proper diagnosis is half the battle. So assuming you’ve already tried drinking more water and turning off the loud music, this series will help you identify and treat your headaches, while teaching you everything you need to know about the pain in your head that becomes a pain in the ass.
The Red Flag: Organic
The scariest kind of headache is the one with the nicest sounding name. The organic headache is a symptom of something far worse: brain trouble. “Organic” is the friendly sounding name we give to the headache you get as a result of tumors and aneurysm.
Fortunately, less than 5% of headaches are organic, and they tend to come with a few other obvious “go to the doctor” signs, like difficulty speaking, loss of balance, inappropriate behavior, and seizures. So don’t run to your local oncologist just because you’re coming down off of your caffeine high.
