Fun Facts About Aphrodisiacs: Part One

A few things you never knew about that stuff that’s supposed to get you going…

http://www.nzavocado.co.nz1) Eat things that look like genitalia
Many ancient cultures believed that certain foods were aphrodisiacs simply because they looked like sex organs. It’s from this fine scientific reasoning that the aphrodisiac list includes such gems as cucumbers, avocados, and even oysters.

2) Eat spicy stuff. They irritate your nerve endings.
One explanation for why chili peppers are credited for creating desire is their tendency toward irritating the urinary tract and genitals, a sensation that can feel similar to sexual excitement.

3) Inhale cucumbers.
The scent of cucumbers is said to excite women by increasing blood flow to the vagina.

4) Eat garlic if you want the Dalia Lama to hate you.
There was a time when Tibetan monks would not be allowed into the monastery soon after eating garlic, as it was known to stir up passions.

5) STAY AWAY FROM SPANISH FLY.
It’s not even a real fly. It’s a beetle, and the supposed aphrodisiac comes from a juice it excretes when frightened. Of course you can’t just take the juice, so when you take Spanish Fly you are ingesting a full and complete powdered beetle. Then what happens? Irritation and burning in the urogenital tract, followed by itchy, swelling genitals (the genital swelling was at one time thought to be sexual excitement, hence the aphrodisiac fallacy). Spanish Fly can permanently damage your kidneys and even lead to death. Which makes sense because, well, it’s incredibly toxic.

Why is anyone still taking this stuff?
