Do you realize that if you are depressed at night, you’ll almost certainly be anxious in the morning? The opposite is also true

Do you realize that if you are depressed at night, you’ll almost certainly be anxious in the morning? The opposite is also true. What a vicious cycle – just plain mean.

If you are depressed, creatively drained, energetically hollowed out in the morning, later in the day you’ll feel suffocatingly anxious and stressed. There is a simple reason for this teeter-totter effect. Stress (including anxiety) and depression are simply the opposite ends of a stick called “frustration.”

If you are full of energy when an issue arises but see no light at the end of your tunnel; no ventilation shaft; and no constructive solution, you experience stress (anxiety however, is when you imagine a future issue that has not yet and may never materialize). Stress requires energy to experience. After spinning your wheels in vain for what seems like an eternity, you burn out your energy. If at this point your issue shows no new signs of resolution, exhausted and crushed of spirit, you end up depressed.

Stress is when you embrace challenge. Anxiety is when you imagine it.

Now that you know that there is a left-hand, right-hand relationship between stress and depression, let’s pop open a can of “resolve-it.”

Depression and anxiety are both manageable from a chemical – hormonal level. But they are 100% masterable if you address them from a mental level. Psychiatrists and endocrinologists can even measure your levels of triiodothyronine and thyroxine to identify any hypothyroidism which often causes mood swings. And if any of your hormones are low, they can just as quickly give you an injection or pill that corrects your depression and stress — from a chemical level.

While there is nothing wrong with this approach, it’s just like spinning your wheels in a ditch. Instead of getting a tow truck on higher ground to lift you out, when you run out of gas, you go looking for that always stinky 2.5 gallon red plastic container.

Instead of getting a tow truck on higher ground to lift you out, when you run out of gas, you go looking for that always stinky 2.5 gallon red plastic container

Depression and anxiety are 100% masterable if you address them from a mental level — higher ground. Think about it. When was the last time you had a problem that could not be solved by throwing some new knowledge at it? Heck, even problems that seem like they can be solved by throwing money at it, cannot (I was going to toss in a political case-in-point but passed).

So the solution to depression and stress is simply mental vision. Clarity. How do you get it naturally?

1. Mentors.

Become a valuable asset to a wise old soul. Give 100% of all you have. Because you would give all you had to extend your life by one more day on your death bed. Mentors can give you days if not years of life now when you’re still young and beautiful.

2. Meditate.

Woo-woo and hocus pocus aside, meditation is simple the process of creating mental higher ground. You cannot notice your roof when you are under it. Simply by putting yourself in a position where you can notice your roof, you’ve already overcome it. By the same logic, all you have to do is stop experiencing your problems and notice them. Just look at your problems for a second. This simple meditation will give you extraordinarily powerful mental leverage.

3. Try Leitzin and Serenadin.

Modern science finally recognizes the inseparable connection between mind and body. This connection expressed differently can be seen as the relationship between your spirit and matter. One precisely influences the other. Always.

(Note: Serenadin does NOT cause drowsiness. Stewart sleeps because Serenadin enables him to manage his stress and finally get some rest) You may get a sick knotted feeling in your gut everytime you just see a bottle of that whiskey that whooped you in high school. You may immediately fall in love as a beautiful human being walks by you wafting of the same perfume/cologne and shampoo combination that your first crush wore. There are infinite combinations of mental triggers that have a pinpoint real physical effect.

Handed down through ancient Eastern medical wisdom and recently verified by reknown cancer and genomics PhDs at Dana Farber Cancer Institute / Harvard Medical School like Beverly Teicher and Arthur Pardee, Leitzin is for Curiously Radiant Mental and Creative Energy When You are Down. Serenadin is for Mental and Emotional Rooting the Size of an Oak Tree When You are Anxiously Bouncing Off Walls.

Leitzin and Serenadin are made of exclusively 100% medicinal grade rare imported herbs. These herbs are then formulated by JBNI Biodrux Corp in Seattle, WA. USA.

Try them both but at least four hours apart. You have a 90 money back guarantee. We’ve only had two returns over 12 years of distribution though our physicians only network. One person ordered the wrong product. The other person returned their purchase near the 90 day mark. It only had 3 capsules left.

Leitzin and Serenadin are not like anything you’ve tried before. Anyone can throw notes on a page. There is only one Mozart. Anyone can throw words in a sentance. There is only one Shakespeare. Leitzin and Serenadin are not like anything you’ve tried before. How much more full and rich could your life be if your mind raced at peak-flow all the time?

4. Get a Muse. (For Single People)

If you are creatively drained and in a lull. Do what all the greatest creative minds from Mozart to Picaso did. Get a muse. Sexual attraction jolts your testosterone and sets you on fire. You may do crazy silly things and embarrass yourself. But you may also get a lot of work done if you channel your new found energy that makes the world go round.

5. Stay off Sugar and Carbs

This one should be very self explanatory but it’s more complex than you’d think. Carbs and sugars lead to increased insulin resistance. Your pancreas secretes insulin for metabolism but after repeatedly slamming your blood stream with simple sugars, you need more and more sugar and the following insulin. When your sugar level finally does drop, it drops hard. This is what makes diabetics. Diabetics can actually fall asleep while driving on the freeway from hypoglycemia (low sugar levels). Treat sugars and carbs like a dangerous pleasure.

While holiday misery is never far off for those of us who have to interact with other human beings on a daily basis, SAD is something different altogether and people are becoming increasingly aware of its prevalence. A different type of depression that follows a seasonal cycle, SAD has two different sets of characteristics:

Winter depression

Depression

Hopelessness

Anxiety

Loss of energy

Social withdrawal

Oversleeping

Loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed

Appetite changes, especially a craving for foods high in carbohydrates

Weight gain

Difficulty concentrating and processing information

Summer depression

Anxiety

Trouble sleeping (insomnia)

Irritability

Agitation

Weight loss

Poor appetite

Increased sex drive

There is also another form called Reverse SAD which is a form of bipolar disorder, characterized by mania including persistent elevated mood, hyperactivity, increased social interaction, and inappropriate enthusiasm.

Risk factors for SAD include a family history, living far from the equator, and being female (although men who have SAD sometimes demonstrate more severe symptoms). Interestingly, it has been theorized that SAD may actually be an evolutionary tool to conserve energy during the winter and encourage the procreation cycle to produce offspring in the early spring.

Treatment options for SAD is concentrated in three areas. Phototherapy – light therapy – mimics natural light in order to change your brain chemistry, thereby affecting your mood. Another treatment option is seasonal medication, typically antidepressants such as Wellbutrin, Prozac, and Zoloft. Finally, psychotherapy is commonly used to modify thoughts and behaviors which enhance or encourage SAD, as well as to help people find ways to cope with the depression.

Rule #1
Determine if the point you’re trying to prove is worth it. Are you getting ready to go toe to toe over your spouse’s view on how to properly fold napkins, or are you debating where you want to buy your first house? Sometimes the key to an argument is not to get into it in the first place. If you are not invested in the outcome, or if the topic isn’t any of your business, just shut your yapper. If it is an important topic that merits a discussion of the issues, proceed to Rule #2.

Rule #2
Don’t be adversarial. You are not in court (if you are you’re way past these rules), you’re on the same team as your partner. Remember that your goal is to get all of the information out on the table so that the two of you can come to the same conclusion. Despite the fact that we are gifted with speech and cognition, human beings are terrible communicators. Miscommunication causes pointless arguing, so rule that out first by making an effort to figure out where the other person is coming from. That means asking questions and then allowing an opportunity to respond. You already know what your point is – your focus should be find out what factors influence your partner’s position. Ideally, your partner will be just as interested in the reasons underlying your opinion.

Whatever you do, don’t allow the discussion to morph into another topic altogether.

Rule #3
Stay on topic. I know, this is an old one, but it’s important. If you’re talking about something that’s relevant now, don’t revisit what your partner did last week, last month, or last year. If you’re talking about buying a car, don’t bring up your partner’s character flaws. Talk about the things that were revealed during your execution of rule #2. If you come across another important issue that needs to be discussed, acknowledge it and plan to have that discussion at another time. Whatever you do, don’t allow the discussion to morph into another topic altogether. Stay focused on the issue at hand and the things that affect it right now, and try not to make generalizations about the kind of person your partner is. Still, people sometimes say the wrong thing, which leads us to the next rule…

Rule #4
If your spouse or partner says something that hurts you, don’t assume that was their intention. That’s why you’re with that person – because you trust that they won’t try to hurt you on purpose. If something is said that is hurtful to you, give your partner a chance. Tell her that what she said hurt your feelings, and ask if that was what she meant to do. THEN WAIT FOR A RESPONSE. Most likely, you will either receive reassurance that hurtfulness was not your partner’s intention along with a clarification, or your partner will apologize and attempt to remedy the mistake. If that’s what happens, do yourself a favor and let it go. If, on the other hand, your partner tells you that she really was trying to hurt you then you should seek relationship counseling because the two of you have issues that can’t be resolved by a set of relationship rules from the internet.

some arguments won’t be resolved in one sitting

Rule #5
Accept the fact that some arguments won’t be resolved in one sitting. If you’re not making headway give yourselves a break and agree to sleep on each others’ ideas and talk more later. Sometimes it’s wise to give each other an opportunity to think over the conversation and come back to it with a new outlook, without having to admit defeat.

Follow these rules and cultivate respect and confidence in your relationship. If you can master the art of conflict resolution, you will have happier, less stressful interactions not only with your partner but with your family, friends and colleagues. Above all, when in a disagreement if all else fails, remember – you may be wrong.

You may feel like less of a leper admiting to your anxiety than to your depression. Anxiety conjures associations of something dramatic — maybe even interesting. Depression only calls to mind soiled Kleenex and someone who will drain the life force out of you by talking your ears off.

Surprisingly, neither depression nor anxiety are separate issues. They are actually two polar extremes of the same life dilemma.

Anxiety occurs when you have a life challenge that you cannot see a solution for — while you have energy. Depression, on the other hand, is what happens when you’ve spun your wheels in vain all day long struggling to break past this issue. Depression is what happens when your problem stays just as locked-in but your creative energy is zapped.

Depression, on the other hand, is what happens when you’ve spun your wheels in vain all day long struggling to break past this issue

The implications of misunderstanding this depression-anxiety cycle is the number #1 FAIL you might easily commit. When you get depressed, you might try to increase your energy level with exersize, diet, or even medication. This will do nothing more than pull you out of depression and into anxiety. When you are anxious, you may try the same things to make you calm down. This will do nothing more than pull you out of anxiety and put you in depression. This is why most people experience anxiety in the mornings and depression at night.

So it’s obvious that the solution is NOT in varying the temperature of your furnace. The solution is in creating a mental insulation / ventilation system. The solution is outside of the mechanics of the problem/energy level paradigm.

All you have to do is create visibility into the solution. The solution is outside of the mechanics of the problem to energy level paradigm. If a solution is in sight, whether you are fatigued or energized, you will not suffer depression or anxiety (respectively). Logical right? So then, how do you create this mental insulation/ventilation system that will keep you comfortable at any energy level?

1. Provide value to a Mentor. She / He will mentor you and give you that solution perspective that will take the pressure off of you life.

2. WAIT long enough for the events surrounding the problem to offer you a window of resolution.

WARNING: #3 is a product pitch! =)

Living with anxiety is kind of like sharing a bed with my cat. Every night he stakes out a nest down near my feet where he is least likely to interfere. Then, as soon as I am asleep he starts to take over. Stretching his back and legs, then strategically rolling about, he slowly muscles his way into my sleeping space (photo: Paul Bradbury, Getty Images). In the haze of sleep I am apparently much more generous and within a few hours I find myself sleeping in a scrunched up fetal position with my knees firmly planted in my husband’s back.

if you’re spending a lot of time worrying about whether you have an anxiety disorder I’d say that’s a dead giveaway

The thing is, if I were awake he’d never be able to bully me out of my comfort zone. Everyone has a metaphorical cat in their bed – anxiety is part of being human – the question is, are you able to know when to kick him out or does your brain trick you into thinking that he has a right to be there? If having an anxiety disorder means that you aren’t able to differentiate between a rational anxiety and an irrational one, how do you know if you have an anxiety problem? I’m no psychotherapist, but if you’re spending a lot of time worrying about whether you have an anxiety disorder I’d say that’s a dead giveaway. If, on the other hand, you’re one of those people who’s beginning to question the role anxiety plays in your life – or in the life of someone you care about – follow this link to a self-test that may help you get an idea of what is normal and what isn’t.

According to the Anxiety Disorders Association of America, over 18% of Americans are affected by some form of an anxiety disorder. The most common forms are Generalized Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive, Panic, Post Traumatic Stress, Social Anxiety, and specific phobias. Typically, treatments for such disorders are focused on a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, relaxation, and medication.

CBT focuses on identifying, understanding, and modifying thinking and behavior patterns. When a person changes thinking and behavior, emotional changes usually follow.” – www.adaa.org

What does that mean, anyway? In a nutshell, CBT is a method of teaching an individual how to change the way that they perceive and react to a situation. For example, if a person has a phobia anxiety disorder related to muffins a therapist might help her figure out what thoughts (cognition) arise when she is presented with a muffin and what actions (behaviors) those thoughts lead to. Then, the person can learn to recognize those “muffin” situations and practice thinking and reacting differently when presented with one. After a while your brain learns to react in the way you want it to without thinking about it. Basically, it’s learning to be your own therapist.

So, if you think that you may have an anxiety issue remember that medication is not the only solution. For some people, pharmaceuticals are an important part of treatment. For others, a little research and self therapy may go a long way. And remember – never, ever let your pet bully you out of bed space. It’s just not right.

Even though Mom and Dad hated each other, Mom would ask me to listen to Dad. She would tell me to ask him to teach me carpentery. She would tell me to get Dad to take me on hikes. I once found a seashell on Palomar Mountain. It was white. It would take me a little while to figure out how it got there in the first place.

Continued from http://bioprin.posterous.com/the-partial-road-chapter-six

Looking back, even before Mom knew about her condition, she almost evangelically went out of her way to find mentors for me. Whether she instinctively knew that she would not be there for the entire course of my childhood or whether she just wanted to get me every advantage in life, I still don’t know.

Mom surveyed, hunted, screened, tested, and finally approved then introduced me to seven mentors before she stepped away from life with us.

Mom surveyed, hunted, screened, tested, and finally approved then introduced me to seven mentors before she stepped away from life with us.

What I didn’t know at the time was that she and Dad both worked two jobs to keep me under the wings of these mentors. When I was six, Mom had heard from a friend that Mr. Glen Neenan was considered the a hero among first grade teachers. Rumors circulated that Mr. Neenan was the human ADHD Med. Kids who were prescribed this drug or that drug starting in preschool could just drop the meds altogether if they got accepted into Mr. Neenan’s class.

Mr. Neenan was that good. He was on fire. Everything he taught came to life. If he read to us from a book, he would dim the lights and have us stomp our feet as if they were treading gooey mud. Then he had us breathe slowly and deeply as if we were in rain forest humidity. It wasn’t until each one of us was completely transported that he began to read to us about the history of the Amazon.

 It was wonderful.

Mr. Neenan’s classroom was temple. It was a sacred place where every child had to power to create entire worlds. It was wonderful.

The only problem was that Mr. Neenan taught at Taft Country Day. It was a private school. The tuition was more than Mom’s entire salary. What I didn’t know is that both Mom and Dad’s second jobs started after my bedtime. This is why Mrs. Crenshaw in the apartment directly across from us had our apartment key.

“Charles, Mrs. Crenshaw and Dad are still here. So you can go to sleep now warm and safe. I’m going out for a little bit but I’ll be back before you know it,” Mom would tell me every night about 10pm. Most of the time I was already asleep. Some of the time, I would wonder why Mom had to leave. I missed the bedtime stories she would read to me.

 I’ve never seen him cry.

“Charles, Mrs. Crenshaw is just right across the hall. I’m going out for a little bit but Mom should be back before you know it. Then, as soon as Mom’s back at home, I’m going to miss her so much, I’ll have to come racing back to join both of you ok?” Dad whispered in my ear as I slept about an hour later.

I only found out that Dad also whispered to me before leaving for his night job when I was much older. Dad never told me. He was always too stoic to tell me stories like that. I’ve never seen him cry. Funny thing is that while I could barely understand him, It was Mr. Rhee with Shin-da-lella. Mr. Rhee later taught me how to see the hidden parts of my life. Mr. Rhee would teach me many things over the course of my life. (CONTINUED: Chapter 8)

Of course, your pet’s anxiety may not be your fault. Some breeds of dog are prone to anxiety

Of course, your pet’s anxiety may not be your fault. Some breeds of dog are prone to anxiety. Some of the most common symptoms of anxiety in dogs include excessive licking, pacing, barking, frequent urination, and urinating or defecating in the house. One of the most common forms of pet anxiety is separation, but some dogs also develop anxiety related to specific fears like fireworks or Woody Allen flicks. If it’s the latter, he may just be concerned about your taste in movies.

Anxiety prone breeds: Great Danes, German short-haired pointers, German shepherd dogs, bull terriers, Jack Russell terriers, Dalmatians, Bouvier de Flanders, salukis, Cairn terriers, basset hounds, and soft-coated Wheaton terriers.

So, what do you do if your dog has separation anxiety? You could buy a baby bjorn and pack him around with you everywhere you go. For some, that may be the answer (please, please, please post a pic if this is you) but for those of you who want to maintain a sane facade I’ll briefly summarize the options.

Usually the first step in any kind of anxiety treatment for a dog is to make sure she is getting lots of exercise and that there is a daily routine which incorporates feeding, walking, and playtime. If your dog suffers from separation anxiety specifically, you should learn about behavior modification for dogs and use some desensitization techniques to get her used to your absence. These techniques typically start with brief periods of separation (like walking to the next room and then returning), gradually increasing the time of separation as your dog becomes more comfortable. Also, eliminating triggers like your I’m-about-to-leave routine (you know… coat, keys, phone, wallet, door) and not fussing over your pet when you come home are good ways to avoid reinforcing your dog’s anxious behavior. For a great overview on separation anxiety in pets, visit this link.

who has to deal with it without a word of complaint?

If your pet just isn’t responding to behavioral techniques or is reacting well to the training but still needs more help, some vets recommend medication. According to www.vetinfo.com, there are four main categories of medications used for treating anxiety in dogs.

Acemaprozine: Acemaprozine is a dog tranquilizer most commonly used during surgery to prevent vomiting but it is also used to relax excitable dogs.

Tricyclic antidepressants: The main drugs used from this category are Amitriptyline (Elavil) and Clomipramine (Clomicalm). These drugs shouldn’t be used if your dog has been on MAOIs within the previous two weeks. Side effects include constipation, dry eyes, dizziness, dry mouth, lethargy, appetite loss, nausea, and urinary retention.

Flouxetine: Prozac or Reconcile are SSRIs and suppress Seratonin. These drugs shouldn’t be used if your dog is pregnant, nursing, or taking MAO inhibitors. Side effects include cold-like symptoms, diarrhea, dizziness, dry mouth, lethargy, loss of appetite, weakness, and weight loss.

Vistaril: Vistaril is an allergy medication that is generally used to treat allergies but sometimes used as a sedative for dogs with anxiety. Side effects include dizziness, lethargy, blurred vision, confusion, dry mouth, nausea, and vomiting. http://www.vetinfo.com/dog-anxiety-medication.html

If you’re not too keen on the idea of giving your special fur person medications with so many potential side effects, you may want to investigate natural remedies. Popular natural remedies include homeopathy, aromatherapy, flower essences, natural diets, and ancient Chinese herbal medicine. Many pet owners have chosen alternative treatment options with great success. Follow this link for an interesting article about Dr. Kathy King, a Kansas vet who specializes in holistic medicine.

“[Dr. King] put together this whole regimen of homeopathic and herbal medicines and acupuncture, and my dog is just doing well,” the Topeka resident says. “It’s been a year and a half (since the diagnosis) and, as far as we know, she’s cancer-free.” – One of Dr. King’s veterinary clients quoted in Natural pet care: Acupuncture, herbs alternative treatments for animals, by Sarah Henning.

So, if your dog pees on your bed every day while you’re at work, he may be trying to tell you something. If your spouse pees on your bed… well, that’s another topic altogether. Please be aware that there is more than one approach to treatment if your dog is suffering from anxiety and be sure to investigate all of your options. If you have experience with this topic (the dog, not the spouse) please share your wisdom by commenting on this post. In fact, even if you have no wisdom at all feel free to share stories and pics of your anxious pets, or just ask questions.Sources:
